The Importance of Software Navigation

In today’s working environment, computers are used to complete the majority, if not all, of the tasks that we are given as members of the workforce. Not only are we using computers but we are using a wide variety of software to complete our jobs. Dealing with this variety of software can become overwhelming, cumbersome, and flat out frustrating. However, in order to make our working lives a little easier, I believe that it is very important to take a quick moment to try and gain an understanding on how to navigate each piece of software.

Improving one’s knowledge of software navigation can make all the difference in turning an hour long task into a forty-five minute or even half an hour task. As an accountant one of the programs that I use the most is Microsoft Excel which is a perfect example of how mastering the navigation can significantly reduce the time it takes to complete tasks. Microsoft Excel has multiple ways for the user to navigate its interface; this is great because each person likes to operate differently. I for one am a huge believer in using keyboard shortcuts and by taking the time to learn this navigation style I’ve become more efficient in my everyday tasks. That is why I suggest taking the time to learn how to navigate all the different software that one uses. Sometimes a quick internet search to see some of the best practices on a program can yield some real gems in making one’s life just a little bit easier and more efficient. In addition, it helps to save any particularly good websites in your bookmarks to use as a reference at a later time and, of course, to share them with your coworkers to make their lives easier too.

At the end of the day, we all have to deal with a variety of software that can cause us headaches, overwhelm us, and get in the way of us finishing our jobs, but, by finding navigation tools and tips either through the internet or coworkers, we can all alleviate some of these pains and issues.
